Ships are the basic unit of attack in Starfleet Commander. They require a Shipyard for building.
Ship Descriptions
Utility Ships | ||||||||||||||||||||
Shadow Probe: Extremely fast probe used to spy on foreign worlds for tactical purposes. Probe is destroyed on use, but provides a complete espionage report regardless of the target's espionage tech level. (All universes) | Genesis Class Solar Satellite: Power-providing ship that produces energy more efficiently than the Helios. Although stationary and easily destroyed in a raid, it has a 70% chance of regenerating. (All universes) | Hermes Class Probe: Extremely fast probe used primarily to spy on foreign worlds for tactical purposes. (All universes)
| ||||||||||||||||||
Helios Class Solar Satellite: Power-providing ship. It is stationary and easily destroyed in a raid. (All universes)
|
Zagreus Class Recycler: Used for collecting debris left behind in battle. Faster than the Dionysus. Send these on a harvest mission and you can collect the resources that float in debris fields around planets after battles. (All universes)
|
Dionysus Class Recycler: Used for collecting debris left behind in battle. Has a larger capacity and uses less fuel than a Zagreus. Send these on a harvest mission and you can collect the resources that float in debris fields around planets after battles. (All universes)
| ||||||||||||||||||
Gaia Class Colony Ship: Used for colonizing new worlds. When sent to an empty planet spot, it will create a new world on which you can develop new mines and buildings, and deploy ships. (All universes)
|
Triton Class Recycler: When sent into battle, this ship—if it survives—can recover a destroyed ship from the wreckage of that battle. (human)
| |||||||||||||||||||
Transport Ships (All universes; human)
Atlas Class Cargo: A cargo ship, for hauling resources between planets or from raids. You begin the game with one of these ships. Upgrades to Pulse Drive when you research level 5, after which it is the fastest cargo ship.
|
Hercules Class Cargo: An upgrade to the Atlas with better shield, hull, and cargo capacity. However, it is slower than the upgraded Atlas Class.
|
Carmanor Class Cargo: The largest freight ship in the Universe. It's slower than the Atlas or Hercules but has the largest cargo capacity, making it ideal for moving large amounts of resources.
| ||||||||||||||||||
Charon Class Transport: The only ship approved for civilian and droid transport. Each one is capable of ferrying six between your worlds.
| ||||||||||||||||||||
Starfighters | ||||||||||||||||||||
Artemis Class Fighter: A basic assault unit. It is cheap, light, and dependable, and is the first attack ship that most commanders will build. (All universes; human)
|
Apollo Class Fighter: An upgrade of the Artemis Class that uses a Pulse Drive in place of a Jet Drive allowing for greater firepower and defenses. (All universes except Conquest; human)
|
Empusa Class Fighter: Small but powerful assault unit. Its pilots are trained to perform kamikaze missions to inflict massive amounts of damage on enemy ships. (Nova, Hired Guns; Krug)
| ||||||||||||||||||
Erebus Class Fighter: Lightweight fighter with a heavyweight weapons system. During combat the Erebus will fire three times per round, ignoring all shields and directly striking the hull of the ships and defenses of your enemies. (Conquest, Hired Guns; Seekers)
|
Magnon Class Fighter: Seeker built entry level fighter that pushes the boundries of what is considered "small" because this ship is a beast for its size. The Magnon is by far the most effective fighter for the cost.. (Hired Guns; Seekers) | Mantus Class Fighter: Sleek Krug low level fighter that can out pace the human Artemis class. The Mantus is highly more effective in large numbers and can serve as great fodder against large enemy targets. (Hired Guns; Krug)
Vortex Class Fighter: The only small fighter among the Urcath armada since they don't value small squadrons. For this reason they've outfitted the Vortex with high cargo capacities and a low hydrogen consumption rate meant to plunder and retrieve resources from large distances (Hired Guns; Urcath)
Light Capital Warships
Curetes Class Cruiser: a defensive style of ship. It is designed to absorb large hits. While it has limited offense, its high shields and the fact that nothing rapid fires against it make it able to withstand large amounts of fire, making it a great addition to your fleet. (Nova, Conquest, Hired Guns; Urcath)
|
Poseidon Class Cruiser: features around three times the defensive capability and twice the weaponry as the Apollo Class, in addition to being one of the fastest ships in the universe. (All universes; human)
| |||||||||||||||||||
Cirrus Class Cruiser: (Hired Guns; Seeker) | Typhon Class Cruiser: The Typhon Cruiser is a heavy Krug attack ship and the most common ship found in the Krug empire. The Typhon is dependable and stands tall in any type of conflict. (Hired Guns; Krug)
Medium Capital Warships
Athena Class Battleship: Many commanders utilize the Athena class as the principal ship for their fleets. Excellent defenses, strong weapons, and fast cruising speed make it a difficult ship to fight against. (All universes; human)
|
Hades Class Battleship: With high speed, large cargo, heavy hull, and rapid fire versus many ships, the Hades Class is the optimal choice for heavy fleet versus fleet combat. (All universes; Krug)
|
Moros Class Battleship: The Moros is the big brother to the lightweight Erebus. During combat the advanced weapons system of the Moros will fire three times per round, ignoring all shields and directly striking the hull of the ships and defenses of your enemies. (Hired Guns; Urcath)
Heavy Capital Warships
Prometheus Class Destroyer: This is the largest battle ship in the universe, exceeded in power only by the much slower Zeus and Thanatos Classes. It packs massive firepower and can be used to smash through enemy defenses. (All universes; human)
|
Thanatos Class Destroyer: The Thanatos, a massive assault unit rivaled only by the Zeus, is able to make quick work of both enemy fleets and defenses. (Nova, Conquest, Hired Guns; Krug)
| |||||||||||||||||||
Other Warships | ||||||||||||||||||||
Ares Class Bomber: A specialized ship used to demolish enemy planetary defenses. However, this ship is weaker in ship versus ship combat, due its lack of Rapid Fire vs ships. (All universes; Urcath)
|
Hephaestus Class Attack Platform: The Hephaestus Class Attack Platform is the latest in planetary assault technology. It can be deployed into orbit in a solar system and act as a mobile base for your fleet. (All universes; Urcath)
|
Pallas Class Bomber: The Pallas is a specialized assault unit meant for disabling enemy mine fields and hammering opposing defenses. It's not very effective against enemy fighters, but is able to quickly neutralize mines so that they cause minimal damage. (Nova, Hired Guns; Seekers)
| ||||||||||||||||||
Zeus Class: This is the heaviest assault ship. Its massive firepower is unrivaled. (All universes; Seekers)

Ship Engine Types
There are three types of engines currently in use in the Starfleet Universe, the Jet Drive Engine, the Pulse Drive Engine, and the Warp Drive Engine.
Note: Of the three drive types described, only Pulse and Warp are even vaguely interstellar in nature, and Pulse drive would, in reality, only be of use in so-called "generation" ships, which literally take a lifetime to reach the nearest stars. Hence Warp drive is really the only one of these drives which should properly operate within the time-frames suggested by the game.
The Jet Drive Engine
Main article: Jet Drive |
The ancient Jet Drive Engine ignites a combustible gas and use the resulting thrust to move ships. While new advances have continually increased their efficiency, they are, on the whole, a relatively slow method of transportation. Still they are cheap and effective for units that don't require the advanced speed afforded by Pulse and Warp drives.
Ships using the Jet Drive Engine Type:
- Atlas Class (upgradable to Pulse Drive Engine)
- Artemis Class
- Carmanor Class
- Curetes Class (only in Nova)
- Dionysus Class
- Empusa Class (only in Nova)
- Hercules Class
- Hermes Class
- Zagreus Class
The Pulse Drive Engine
Main article: Pulse Drive |
The Pulse Drive Engine is an evolution of the Jet Drive Engine. Instead of igniting a stream of gas, it uses a series of nuclear explosions (pulses) to generate considerable thrust. This engine type is used on larger and faster ships instead of the Jet Drive Engines.
Ships using the Pulse Drive Engine:
- Apollo Class
- Ares Class (upgradable to Warp Drive Engine)
- Atlas Class (once upgraded)
- Charon Class
- Gaia Class
- Pallas Class (only in Nova)
- Poseidon Class
The Warp Drive Engine
Main article: Warp Drive |
The Warp Drive Engine is the pinnacle of transportation technology. It uses magnetism to reshape the space-time continuum around it, allowing ships to move at faster-than-light speeds.
Ships using the Warp Drive Engine:
- Ares Class (once upgraded)
- Athena Class
- Hades Class
- Hephaestus Class
- Prometheus Class
- Thanatos Class (only in Nova)
- Zeus Class
