Curetes Class Cruiser

[Source] |
The Curetes is a defensive style of ship available only in the Starfleet Commander Nova universe. It is designed to absorb large hits. While it has limited offense, its high shields and the fact that nothing rapid fires against it make it able to withstand large amounts of fire, making it a great addition to your fleet.

Evaluation
Advantages
The Curetes is the only ship in any universe that has no rapid fire vulnerability. It also has a remarkably high shield rating for a vehicle of its cost, and it has the highest shield rating of all cruisers, higher even than the Prometheus Class. Additionally, as most of the resource cost is in hydrogen, most of the fighting power of the curetes is destroyed in battle, leaving a small and unrewarding debris field. For these reasons, in Starfleet Commander Nova, the Curetes class is more effective than the Apollo Class or Hades Class for purposes of defending a point target, such as a mining world that cannot yet produce its own defenses or a Hephaestus Class attack platform. The Curetes also travels at approximately the same speed as the Artemis Class, Apollo Class, Athena Class, and Hades Class.
Disadvantages
The Curetes does not have significant firepower. With an attack rating of 100, it is less powerful than an Apollo Class fighter, and due to the ineffectiveness rule, it cannot deal any damage to a Zeus or a Large Decoy. It also lacks any significant rapid fire capabilities, being able to deal only 5 rapid fire against Charon, Helios, or Hermes. It also fares somewhat poorly in battle against a full compliment of defenses.
Uses
The Curetes is often used as a mobile defense or as a supplement to defenses. Since the debris field left behind is fairly small, and the damage they can take is fairly high, out of all ships, a fleet of these would be one of the least attractive targets for players interested in destroying fleets and recycling the debris. Players sometimes use Curetes to help defend a new moon, a recently colonized world, an MAC, or a Hephaestus.
The high shield and reasonably low overall cost has also made the Curetes effective in attacks as a replacement or supplement to the use of fodder ships.
Using Curetes alone in attacks is unlikely to be a wise move, unless the target is lightly armed. Curetes will lose in any attack against a planet with either a large decoy or a Zeus Class.
Curetes can also be used in conjunction with Empusas on attacks, in order to increase their range. In many respects, the high attack rating of the Empusa can make this pairing an effective strategy.
