Evaluation

ADVANTAGES

Once Pulse Drive level 5 is obtained, the Atlas is upgraded to the Pulse Drive Engine. At this point, the base speed doubles to 10,000 allowing faster turnaround time on raids. Further upgrades to Pulse Drive make the Atlas Class even faster (20% per upgrade).

DISADVANTAGES

The Atlas Class requires more Hydrogen to operate than the Hercules Class per 5,000 resources. Furthermore, the Atlas Class has considerably less armor and hull making it very likely to be destroyed in any combat.

NOTE

The Atlas Class can be used as an extended range fuel tank for any ships its accompanying. Its preferable and more economical to use a Hercules Class for extended range deployments (such as intergalactic travel) as the hydrogen cost is less for operation and the space for fuel is greater, at the cost of speed.

Trivia

Name

In Greek mythology, Atlas is the Titan who holds up the sky. He is the brother of Prometheus and (according to some) the son of Gaia.

Artwork

This ship has had much speculation as to its look being a reference to the BBC SciFi sitcom RED DWARF, though you cannot see the words "Space Cargo Movers Inc" written on the ship unless you zoom in on the ship at the top of this page. In the tv show RED DWARF the crew works for and the ship(s) RED DWARF is owned by the "Space Core Mining Co". The play on words is uncanny and many players refer to this ship as a 'dwarf' or a 'red dwarf'.

An Atlas with a mostly-red color scheme and a pirate emblem can be seen in the picture for the Raid Unguarded Crystal Mine mission. A mostly-blue Atlas can be seen in the picture for the Ore Warehouse. The picture for the Crystal Warehouse features a Yellow/Orange colored Atlas.
