The Gauss Cannon fires metal projectiles at superluminal speeds similar to a railgun. It uses magnetic fields rated in gauss, hence the name, to eject a magnetic slug or round at a target. The speed of the slug or projectile depends on the amount of gauss.

Evaluation

ADVANTAGES

The Gauss Cannon is a good defense against enemy ships, dealing enough damage to occasionally destroy a Poseidon Class vessel in one hit. See "Destroying" in Combat.

DISADVANTAGES

The only real downside of the Gauss Cannon is that the mighty Zeus Class ship has Rapid Fire against it, while nothing has Rapid Fire against the Plasma Cannon.
