what are they anyway? all i know is they belong on moons. anyone with more info?

Can only the owner use the Gate? Or can you allow other users (alliance members, buddy list) to use it? Can you charge a fee like a tollbooth? -Captain Orca (kidding on the last one)

Just got confirmation that warp gate DO function across galaxies. Should probably be stated explicitly on the wiki page since I hear this question alot. -Grynch

Is there a charge to use the jump gate, or are jumps free once the gates have been built? From what I hear, they don't cost anything to use, but you can only use them once an hour. -Grynch

- I am now in possession of two operational Warp Gates and have used them several times. I can confirm that they function galaxy-to-galaxy and can be used at no cost, once per hour. (Using the gate begins a one-hour "cool down" progress bar which is visible on both moons, as if it were a building under construction or a fleet in motion). The fleet arrives instantly on the opposite moon. - Silver Gate Squadron 04:18, 29 July 2010 (UTC)

Picture

Why are there no pictures of the warp gate? I always imagined it as the ones in Babylon 5.

- I could find us one, but I'm not sure it wouldn't be copyrighted... and yeah, I was thinking that too. Thats one thing they need to fix, is put more Picture that are detailed in. --Phil Sutherland 12:39, 18 May 2010 (UTC)

Note on Building Time

Based on a question on the message boards, I did some math and determined that the absolute fastest possible method to build a Warp Gate on a brand-new moon is the following build sequence:

Lunar 1, Capitol 1, Capitol 2, Lunar 2, Capitol 3, Capitol 4, Lunar 3, Capitol 5, Capitol 6, Lunar 4, Capitol 7, Capitol 8, Warp Gate.

This will leave all fields occupied after the Gate is built, so you will need to tear down the Capitol 8 in order to add further Lunar levels and/or go into building an Oracle. Going beyond Capitol 8 will actually slow you down, as the Warp Gate's build-time reduction for Capitol 9 is smaller than the combined build time of Lunar 5 plus Capitol 9. Silver, are you sure that's the fastest? I've been using:

Lunar 1, Capitol 1, Capitol 2, Lunar 2, Capitol 3, Capitol 4, Lunar 3, Capitol 5, Capitol 6, Warp Gate.

It takes 171 hours to build the gate but you can start it sooner without building lunar 4, then tear down cap 6, and build lunar 4 to continue for oracles. I was fairly certain my approach was faster when I crunched the numbers

  • I'd have to re-crunch the numbers, but I seem to recall that going Lunar 4/Cap 8 (compared to Lunar 3/Cap 6) saves more time on the Gate (in Original, about 76 hours: a Cap 6 build is 14.3 days while Cap 8 is 11.1) build than the combined build time of the Lunar 4, Cap 7 and Cap 8. That was my criteria. I know if you go for Lunar 5, etcetera (as stated), this is no longer true. It's only a difference of a few hours, though, I think.
