Alliance Name: The White Star Fleet
Alliance Tag: WSF
Genre: Babylon 5

We stand between the candle and the star, between the darkness and the light. We walk into the dark places others fear to tread. We hold the line against the shadows. We are the White Star Fleet.

The White Star Fleet (WSF)

The White Star Fleet is intended as a defensive alliance and information exchange for cautious but active raiders. While we are not, and do not intend to be, an aggressive alliance toward other significant alliances, we can and will respond with force to unprovoked attacks upon our members.

We encourage our members to learn more about the game (and will assist them in doing so), as well as encouraging them to execute low-risk raiding against vulnerable (inactive, independent, or members of small and/or distant alliances) neighbors in order to enhance their total resource income (in addition to mining and salvage operations, and possibly missions).

We also have a very active message forum, and routinely engage in trading, group attacks, group defends, moonshots, and sharing of vital information on potential raiding targets and potential threats.

Our alliance is named after the Anla'shok (Ranger) war fleet in the television series 'Babylon 5'. However, we are a roleplaying-optional alliance, and knowledge of the series is not necessary.

Membership Rules and Guidelines

A White Star

1. This alliance is intended primarily for the defense of its members. We ask that members try to avoid starting or provoking a declared WAR.

As such, members are encouraged to limit their raiding targets to inactives, independents, and members of small and/or distant alliances which are unlikely to wish to escalate the conflict.

(However, in any situation where another player or alliance is already known to be hostile toward one or more WSF members, attacks and/or missile strikes are encouraged when appropriate and reasonable. This would mainly be in response to previous attacks and/or missile strikes.)

2. No inactivity will be permitted. Members can, and will, be expelled from the alliance upon becoming inactive, although they may apply for membership again should they return.

3. Players entering diplomacy or vacation mode for 15 days or more will be expected to submit an explanation in advance.

4. Members are encouraged to work cooperatively with members of any alliance that we have an NAP with, as well as other members of our own alliance, or any other players in their area who are willing. This includes participating in trading, group attacks, group defends, and information exchanges, so long as such do not endanger members of other NAP alliances.

5. Membership will not be extended to those still under newbie protection (except under special circumstances as determined by the Leader on a case-by-case basis).

6. ALL inactive players, regardless of their alliance membership (if any), are considered acceptable targets for attack. This specifically DOES INCLUDE members of The White Star Fleet and alliances with which we have diplomatic agreements.

Governance

The White Star Fleet

The White Star Fleet is ruled over by its Leader, with advisement from a group of officers known as the Grey Council. While full membership in the Grey Council is limited to nine, for historical reasons, any number of additional "Apprentice" positions may also be included.

Any issue of diplomacy or membership (the acceptance, denial, or cancellation of an NAP; beginning or end of a WAR; or admission, promotion, demotion, or expulsion of a member) may be brought to a formal vote by the sole discretion and decision of the Leader, as an alternative to making such decision on their own authority. Depending on the import of the issue, voting privledges may be extended to full members of the Council, or to full members and apprentices alike. In the case of a formal vote, the Leader's vote shall only be counted if necessary to break a tie.

In cases where such decisions are not submitted to the Grey Council, the Leader does explicitly have the authority to act on his own initiative.

Issues not listed here are not within the authority of the Council.

On a case by case basis, full members of the Grey Council may also be granted limited ambassadorial powers, and powers to act on the Leader's behalf when the Leader is not available.

Activity Areas

The White Star Fleet currently has members active in Galaxies 45-48 and in Galaxies 81-95. We are currently recruiting primarily in Galaxies 81-95 (especially 85 and 86). However, all applicants will be considered, regardless of location.

We have temporarily suspended our "newbie protection" membership guideline (Rule 5) and have temporarily taken on the character of a training alliance in the 80s through mid-90s galaxies. All reasonable applicants in this area will be accepted.

Diplomatic Status

The White Star Fleet currently has Non-Aggression Pacts with the following significant alliances: (20 or more members)

Full Alliance Name Alliance Tag Nickname (if any)
A New Hope New Hope ANH
Vanguards of Madness VOM
Schmalkaldischer Bund SchmBund
Anla-Shok Rangers
Vulcan High Command Vulcan
Red Squadron RedSquad the folks who need their own Wiki page
True Klingon Bat'leth
Ægishjálmr Æsir

Other Non-Aggression Pacts (with alliances of less than 20 members) may exist without being listed here. NAPs with such alliances will usually, but not always, be intended as an intermediate phase prior to a merger.

We are open to NAP negotiations from any alliance who wishes to contact us. We do not believe in refusing to communicate.
