There should be a complete discussion of how rank titles are assigned.  Even though it is clear to some on the Leaders page and the page where they are all listed, some people need a more wordy explanation to understand.  [[User:White Beard|White Beard]] 20:41, 13 March 2013 (UTC)

Clarification

There are several areas this page is not clear enough about.

  • When calculating resource points, does the total include resources spent on research?
  • When calculating overall points is it a simple sum of the sub-sections or are they weighted in any way?

Do tear down costs factor into resources spent?

--Schumway 04:18, 7 January 2010 (UTC)

* Resources spent on research projects ARE counted. Simple sum of sub-sections, from what I can tell. And not only are teardown costs NOT included, neither are the cost of building the torn down buildings. It only counts things which you still have. Silver Gate Squadron 16:03, 8 July 2010 (UTC)

Discussion of Page Edits

Someone removed the details re "Overall Points", "Resources Spent", "Fleet" points and "Resources Spent"??? and there is a reference in "Defense Points" that it is the 'same as fleet'... yet someone removed the fleet details? and in "Destroyed Ships" it references "same as resources spent" which was removed by someone. Who ever removed it... want to add it back in please...

--star feat 00:08, 8 January 2010 (UTC)

Schumway is right, please put the other points back.

Ships

That can't be right. SO i could just build a ton of probes and be first?

I am just going to revert back to an old version that has all the different point systems described. --[Me] 13:02, 16 January 2010 (UTC)

* It is correct. You get one point per ship, even if it's a probe or a Helios or a Prometheus. Silver Gate Squadron 16:03, 8 July 2010 (UTC)

Math Questions

This page claims that the Overall is just a sum of the others, but that is not true. Here are my stats: Overall: 168492 Resources Spent: 121037 Fleet: 2207 Research: 135 Defense: 344 Crew: 47 Destroyed Ships: 53578

The sum of all of the others is 177348, not 168492 as the overall says. The game and wiki do not match. --- pheonixdancer, Feb. 10, 2010

* Might have been a scoreboard update while you were looking? It's not unheard of to gain around 10,000 points in an hour, and the scoreboard only updates hourly. Silver Gate Squadron 16:03, 8 July 2010 (UTC)

Ranks vs. Points

The rank calculation is really weird. Look at my rank and tell me whether it is right: Resources Spent: #18449 Fleet : #17142 Research: #7835 Defense: #16352 Crew: #16227 Destroyed ships: #16053 Overall rank: #18598

Making sense? All my ranks in each category are better than my overall rank.

Response:

It is entirely possible for your rankings in each category to be better than your overall rank, based on the distribution of points. Consider this simplified and extreme case:

There are only 5 other players. Each of them has 100 points in one category, and 1 point in the others, for 105 overall. You have 2 points in every category, for 12 points overall. You are second in every category, but last overall.

* Yes. What you're quoting here is RANK (relative to other players) and not POINTS (which are absolute). It's entirely possible that in each category, there's a number of people - not necessarily the same ones - who are above you in that category but below you in others, or below you in one category but above you in the rest. For example, what if a top-200 player, for some reason, had never built any defenses or just been massively missile striked? He'd be below you in defense but above in everything else... Destroyed Ships

Here is my question. In group attacks, does anyone know how the ship kills get allocated? Are they tied to the actual kills tallied by the calculator for each ship, and assigned accordingly? Are they divided evenly? Or by some proportionality rule? -- BowMtnSpirit

* I believe, but am not certain, that they are divided amongst all attackers (and/or defenders) with surviving ships, with the points representing lost ships divided equally amongst those on the opposite side. Unless someone is on both sides, then they forfeit all points from that battle. Silver Gate Squadron 16:03, 8 July 2010 (UTC)

Teardown same effect like abbandon?

Is tearing down of a building also decreasing the building points at the leaders?

- Yes. As mentioned earlier on this page, tearing down buildings (like abandoning a planet) will cause a net loss of RSP. This is because you only get credit for items you still have. Silver Gate Squadron 16:41, 21 January 2011 (UTC)
