Ok. I just started this game (3 Days ago)and still don't know all the rules yet. I just found out that I have already been attacked and there is debris in orbit around my planet. How is that fair and why should I continue playing if I'm not being given a chance to even learn the game? Shouldn't there be a warming up period before being allowed to be attacked?

:The most likely cause of debris in front of your planet (if in fact you were only playing for 3 days) was left there from someone Else's planet.  That is, another player may have had a planet in the slot you now occupy but abandoned it, and the debris would still have been left over.

: There IS a "warm-up period" before being attacked. There's also a "newbie" mode after that, where you can only be attacked by people who are within 5x your Resources Spent points. (If you are scanning the galaxy and see people marked (N), it's because they are too big to interact with you.) This continues until your Resources Spent points reach 5,000 - after that anyone can attack you, unless they are still under 5000 and you are too far above them.

Engaging recyclers

So my friend wants to harvest my debris and he sent 2 but will my defences attack them

No - Harvesting never engages a planets defense or fleet. The planet owner will never even know you were there (other than the debris filed disappearing, but he won't know who).

Diplomacy Mode

Can I harvest debris while in diplomacy mode?

Yes, it is not considered an act of aggression.

One's own debris

I was recently attacked or should I say slaughtered. There is a great amount of battle debris surrounding my planet. Am I capable of harvesting this debris or is spoils for someone else?

If you have a spare recycler, you can collect the debris. Otherwise, someone else may grab it.

More debris than I can carry

Ok, say my Dionysus Class Recycler can only carry 20,000 units of cargo and the field I want to harvest has a lot more than that, can I send a cargo ship with the recycler to carry back what the recycler can't hold? Will the recycler “fill” the cargo ship?

No, cargo ships sent with recyclers can not hold extra debris.
The correct answer in this case is to send multiple Dionysus ships. You can send other ships along, but they don't do anything.

Newbie and attacked already???

The most likely cause of debris in front of your planet (if in fact you were only playing for 3 days) was left there from someone Else's planet. That is, another player may have had a planet in the slot you now occupy but abandoned it, and the debris would still have been left over.
There IS a "warm-up period" before being attacked.

Defences leave no debris?

Just to clarify, ground defences, like laser & plasma cannons, leave no debris. Only ships (both attacking & defending) can make debris - right?

- Correct. Debris only comes from destroyed ships. (In fact, it is exactly 30% of the build costs, in ore and crystal, of the destroyed ships.)
