How do I get more fleets?
Research AI Tech to gain more fleet slots, or rent the Admiral
Why do I keep getting attacked?

Is the Gaia consumed each time you create a colony?
Yes see Gaia Class for more info.
How can I run more missions/attacks at the same time?
You can run a number of missions or attacks equal to max fleets. See above for how to get more fleets.
How does the interaction with by "buddies" or recruits work?
Buddies and recruits are 2 different things, anyone you recruit shows up as crew and workers on your home-world, buddies are people you have friend-ed in game, You can do group attacks or group defense with anyone who is a buddy.
While in Diplomacy mode, can you still colonize other planets?
Yes. Diplomacy mode only affects your ability to spy on or attack other players, and other players' ability to spy on or attack you. If you're in Diplomacy mode, then you can still colonize empty planets run missions, build ships or defenses, and harvest debris as usual.
How can I progress if I don't have any crew?
Crew are only needed to unlock missions. You can get more crew by building crew droids at the Factory
