About Us:

Valente do Moita was started by Todd Davis and Skip McBride for members of the television media, mainly in North Texas and Northwest Louisiana, but has since grown to include a host of people with a variety of backgrounds; from students to professional executives. Currently, our heaviest strengths reside in parts of galaxies 26, 28 and 68 though we have members in other galaxies. The Commonwealth of Worlds Alliance merged with Valente July 10th, 2010 bringing a wealth of new talent, leadership and bases, particularly in galaxy 27.

Valente, is a Portuguese/Spanish surname meaning "Strength." Moita, is a small town 15 miles south of Lisbon, Portugal. Thus, it's translated as "Strength of Moita." Davis's wife, Rosemary (Commander Rho), and the majority of her family, is originally from this small town, even though she calls Fort Worth, as well as Toronto, Canada, home. In short, the name Valente do Moita is an homage to Davis's wife to keep her happy.

History

Historically speaking, the Portuguese are generally credited with truly being the first world power, thanks in large part to their insatiable quest for new trade routes and the awesome, and often dreaded, 140-gun Portuguese Galleons (Man-o-War) that roamed the high seas years before the rise of the Spanish Armadas and, later, British Fleets. These new trade route discoveries made it possible for other countries to establish similar routes, and eventually colonies in the New World. What better influence for a Starfleet Commander Alliance than the Portuguese Armada!!!

Strategy

One talent this alliance possesses, besides extreme patience, is the ability to coordinate its attack patterns and defenses with other players. This is due to the fact that Valente is small and its members are on a first name basis with each other. This allows for easy communication and coordination against its foes. This also means, we are quick to aid a fellow member, and do so with a vengeance. This is our greatest strength.

Philosophy

Valente is a defensive-oriented alliance and vehemently preaches "defense before fleet."

Recruiting

Valente is open to any who wish to join. However, because we pride ourselves on being small, openings are available only as previous new recruits are able to stand on their own. Promotion is based on a combination of seniority, ability and location.

Valente's motto is: "As Armas!"... literally translated, "To Arms!"
