So, what is in fact their lifespan? Since "they can also be removed by outliving their lifespan" ---- Commander Alphamage

Hi, Matt, I'm editing this page, pulling together information from many Message Board posts you've written over the past few months. My biggest questions surround the detailed process for spawning an NPC. Specific questions I have are the following: - how is the relative user population of each galaxy determined? I've made the assumption that this is based on the number of planets in each galaxy that have been colonized by an active player. Is this correct, or is the relative population determined using a different scheme? If so, what is this other scheme? - how does an NPC determine which player to model itself after? I'm assuming that it does this by randomly selecting a planet (in the galaxy to which the NPC will be spawned) that has been colonized by an active player, then modeling itself based on the player who colonized the planet. Is this correct? Or -- does the NPC randomly select an active player who has at least one planet in a galaxy? This appears to be a more difficult computation than the one I assumed, thus the reason for being my "second choice". - how does an NPC determine where it will be located? I assume in the text that it bases its location on the planet that it chooses, prior to determining its size. In one of your notes, you indicated that the NPC works differently -- it sizes using the second approach I describe above (by selecting a player, rather than a planet, in the galaxy), then it randomly selects a planet that is owned by that player. If what you described is the approach that is used, I assume that it randomly selects a planet that is owned by that player, IN THAT GALAXY.
