Starfleet Commander has sunk to a new low and has found a new way to screw over honest players by giving lazy ones a chance to increase the fields of their planet nominally for an exorbitant fee. Most accurate telling of this new "upgrade" thus far.

The terraform feature, added on 5 January 2010, allows players to increase the number of fields on a colonized planet by five by spending credits. The credit cost is two times the number of existing fields squared.
  
On the buildings page, there is a "Terraform Now" button.  It will allow you to pay credits to increase the number of fields on your planet by five.

Terraform

This feature allows players to increase the number of fields without abandoning the planet and losing all structures and the required colony forming ship in the process.
