A player can abandon any of their planets, including their homeworld. As all resources and ships are lost when doing so, it is best to make sure the planet is empty of anything valuable before abandoning. When abandoning a colony, the player does not recieve the Gaia Class Colony Ship they spent to establish the colony - that ship is permanently lost.

A planet cannot be abandoned while a mission, deployment, or attack is underway from it. This is to avoid game errors by recalling a transport to an empty planet.
