Missions are special battles against computer-controlled enemy ships you can do at any time to help gather resources for your empire. They're very similar to [[battles]]. They are a certain distance away from you, just like an enemy planet. They require you to send a fleet, just like a raid. And you get half of the enemy's resources if you win, just like in combat.

The only difference is that they are always available and they are owned by mercenaries rather than another enemy empire.
