Resource saving is the act of saving resources so that a raiding fleet will not steal them from you. There are a couple common ways to go about this:

  1. Deploy the resources to another planet using cargo. Recall the fleet before it reaches the target planet, or else it will dump all the resources it was carrying on an empty planet. Using a planet you have colonized eliminates the need for this.
  2. Spend it on ships, defenses, buildings and research. Buildings and research are usually preferable because they allow you to hit cancel after the attack lands and get the resources back.
  3. Find a player with (i) or (I) next to their name. Check to make sure they don't have any ships or defenses at the target planet. Load up your ships with your resources and then send them on an attack mission to the planet. It's a bit of a gamble, as the player may suddenly return during the time you are resource saving, but such an event happening is unlikely.
