Anti-Ballistic Missiles (ABMs) are designed to stop incoming Interplanetary Ballistic Missiles (IBMs). In the event of an IBM attack on a planet or moon, ABMs on the planet automatically deploy. Each ABM destroys one IBM, preventing it from doing damage to the attacked planet's or moon's defenses.

ABMs are built in the shipyard (under the defense tab) and stored in the Missile Silo. Each missile take up one slot in the Silo. Because an ABM take up half the space of an IBM in the Missile Silo, they are extremely effective against IBMs.

Someone using IBMs to attack a planet that has the maximum capacity of ABMs need to have a missile silo level equal to at least twice the defender's plus one to get any through. So if the defender has a Level 4 Missile silo full of ABMs (40 of them), the attacker would need a level 9 Silo (because a Level 8 could hold only 40 IPMs, which would all be destroyed by ABMs) to get even one through. That is extremely expensive, making the ABM very effective.

Once Anti-Ballistic Missiles are used they are gone, and need to be rebuilt to use again.

ABMs can be deconstructed by clicking on the Missile Silo link in the Buildings page.
