A: I've done that.  If Colony ships reach an empty colony slot on a colonize mission, they are lost.  If you sent 100 colony on a single colonize mission to a distant planet, all 100 of them would be lost when the planet was colonized.  As far as  I can tell, there is no benefit to sending multiple Gaias... unless perhaps you get more RSP or DSP out of it.

RNG for temperature

any data out there on how they roll for energy on planets --Zafoquat 17:41, 10 January 2011 (UTC)

Q1

In my colony, I cannot build the shipyard because this option is not showing under the "BUILDING". Is there a way to find out what's going on?

Planet Abandon Question

I'm trying to relocate to a new galaxy but I'm worried about abandoning my home planet. I know I need to get my fleets and resources off planet before I abandon, but what about my research? I've done all my research at my home planet and I can't afford to lose it. I've also researched ARCN and was wondering if it would still work if I don't have another Research Lab at level 10. Thanks!

A: Your research belongs to your login not the planet, including ARCNet. The research labs belong to the planets and yes if you abandon the planet the lab is gone. Pretty sure ARCNet uses the lab you kick off the research from, plus N of your other best labs. You can't research ARCNet until you hit L10 but once you have it you won't lose it.

Fields

At the top of this section is "THIS IS NO LONGER ACCURATE" Is this true? How are fields calculated if it is?

The table is only accurate two thirds of the time because of the Gaussian random number generator. The other third is a random number between 40 and 320.

Colonising when you already have all colonies

Is it possible to colonise a 10th planet before you abandon 1 planet , so that you can re-locate to the new planet you just built?

A: You can indeed launch your Gaia for the "10th planet" but if it arrives before you get your abandon done it will just return. No relocation tricks as you seem to suggest.

Multi Gaia

Anyone know if multiple colony ships can be used to colonize a planet? Can I send 2 or 3 to establish a world?

A: I've done that. If Colony ships reach an empty colony slot on a colonize mission, they are lost. If you sent 100 colony on a single colonize mission to a distant planet, all 100 of them would be lost when the planet was colonized. As far as I can tell, there is no benefit to sending multiple Gaias... unless perhaps you get more RSP or DSP out of it.

Planning Ahead

New players often build their colonies within a few systems of each other. In the short term this can be helpful for pooling resources and hastening research, buildings, fleet etc. However, in the long term they are limiting themselves to about 100 systems of targets. A better way to deploy your colonies is by taking this into account. Distributing your colonies over a wide area gives you more opportunities for targets. One day you hunt from 110 - 210 systems, the next you've fleetsaved for the night and can now hunt in fresh grounds, 230 - 330 systems. Ok you might have 'favorites' that are worth collecting, but give them a day while you're elsewhere and you can come back to them.

Fuel Consumption

It seems that when you recall, you don't get the fuel back that was unused. Say you send 100 Ares a few systems away. This would be a lot of fuel. If you recall immediately, it seems to me you should get the used fuel back, based on the distance actually travelled. You don't. What happens to the fuel? Just magically disappears?

Also, can we please get a fuel consumption equation please? Simply stating higher numbers equals more fuel used isn't very helpful in planning.

Thanks, -JJ

Planet Gifs

Does anyone have all the different varieties of planet? Not in the sense of one at each position in a system. I mean one of each different gif type. I have four myself (venus, mars, jupiter and europa styles). Are there more?

Could you upload them on the page so we can see them alongside the field table? It isn't play essential but nice to know since we visit the wiki to see a comprehensive explanation of the game. This is a pretty obvious part to miss since we see it nearly every minute of play.

Mean and Standard Deviation

Could someone please provide an explanation of what a standard deviation is and how it is calculated? I suppose that the 'mean' in this context is an average of the largest and smalest sizes, i.e. High + Low divided by 2, but how is this related to the standard deviation?
