The Grey Wolves Alliance is a rapidly growing and highly-ranked peaceful alliance that does not attack other active players unless provoked. We have instituted a ranking system to allow players more room for advancement, and have also begun recognizing players for certain accomplishments within the game to try to promote interest and keep players focused on continual growth.

Rank

The Grey Wolves are a top 25 alliance.

Members

The Grey Wolves Alliance is home to about 200 members. We are also actively recruiting players of any rank in all galaxies, regardless of experience.

Any player who wishes to play peacefully and adhere to the Grey Wolves' guidelines is welcome to join our alliance.

Rules and Guidelines

These are the guidelines for the Grey Wolves alliance.

1. The Grey Wolves are a peaceful alliance. Members are only to attack inactive worlds for the purpose of harvesting resources or gaining destroyed ship points. Members are not to attack active worlds without provocation under any circumstances. A probe received from another party does not constitute provocation, & may only merit the response of sending a probe and/or sending a message to the probing party to establish contact & determine the party's intentions. However, as some allies view probes as acts of aggression, probes are not to target allies. Furthermore, group defenses, especially ninja-style group defenses, will be considered aggressive, & should only occur when group defending another Grey Wolf, group defending against someone who has also attacked you, or in other circumstances which directly affect you or other Grey Wolves. Anything else will be considered an attack on an active without provocation. These rules do not apply to non-player characters (NPCs).

2. If members are attacked, they are free to retaliate with any & all force necessary to counterstrike the opponent & recover resources. However, it is highly recommended that the member take into account the attacker's strength & alliances (if any). If aid is needed it may be requested of other members, but is not guaranteed as other members may have their resources committed to other ventures or may be out of range to lend support.

3. If members wish to exit the alliance, they may do so without repercussions. If someone decides to leave the alliance, they will not be attacked for this action. They are only subject to attack if they leave to join an enemy alliance, are ejected for violating the guidelines of the alliance, become inactive, or attack members of the alliance.

4. Members who are determined to be inactive may be attacked by other members of the alliance for the purpose of allowing the alliance to harvest resources from their inactive worlds & destroy their ships. If members plan to be gone & don't wish to be attacked, it is highly recommended they notify the alliance of their intentions & set their game to diplomacy (if they will be gone less than 1 week) or vacation mode (if they will be gone for a week or longer) for the duration of their absence. Members who intend to quit playing altogether are recommended to notify the alliance immediately upon their decision. Only if the alliance is notified that a member will quit playing altogether may that member's planet(s) be attacked while the member still active.

5. Members enter the group with a default rank of Second Lieutenant. Members may be promoted by reaching certain ranks within the game or by completing the Officer Application Requirements (OAR) and applying for higher officer status with the Second-in-Command (2IC). Your achievements in attaining high-level rankings are something to be proud of, and will be recognized in the alliance's promotions thread.

6. As with any group that offers promotions, there is also the possibility of demotions. When deemed necessary, demotions will be given out by the alliance's commanding officer (CO), & most likely will not be announced. A demotion may not be due to anything more than a drop in your rating. In such a case, once you have worked to improve your standings again, your rank will be returned. Members who have obtained higher ranks through OAR are expected to be more active on the message boards & to perform additional tasks as requested by the CO of the alliance, & may be demoted for failure to meet these requirements. Such a demotion will require these members to undergo OAR again to regain their former rank. They may also be given the opportunity to voluntarily take a temporary rank reduction, & will be able to return to their former status once they feel they can perform to the expected levels of high-ranking alliance officers.

7. Moon shots are permissible without violating the guidelines pertaining to attacking active players under certain circumstances. Any Grey Wolf may attack another for the purposes of moon creation with the permission of the defending party as long as said attack does not violate any rules set by BFG. A Grey Wolf may also attack an ally for the same purposes under the conditions that both parties agree to the moon shot, & both parties submit messages to the COs of both alliances involved prior to engagement so that both alliance COs are aware the attack is not a violation of an established NAP. In the unlikely event a Grey Wolf plans to attack a player with whom we do not have an NAP for the purposes of moon creation, the same protocol will apply. Finally, in the equally unlikely event a Grey Wolf would conduct a moon shot on an unaffiliated independent player, both the Grey Wolf & that player must send messages to the CO of the Grey Wolves prior to engagement.

8. Members are not to abuse the Reply All feature on messages except in instances where the original sender has encouraged them to do so, for whatever reason. Members who abuse the Reply All feature will be counseled on the matter. Allowances may be made in circumstances that could be deemed accidental, but will not be made in those circumstances that are determined to be deliberate in nature. Severe or repeat offenses may result in removal from the alliance without warning. This guideline does not pertain to copying a message, pasting the contents in a new message, & forwarding it to a player's own buddy list, which is completely acceptable & will incur no penalties whatsoever.

9. Recruitment efforts should be limited to unaffiliated players (those who are not in an alliance). The only exception to this is when attempting to recruit an entire alliance to merge into the Grey Wolves (such as when an alliance is very small), & then the invitation should be made very clear that it is to all members. The Registered Recruiting Office is available to assist in clarification on this matter. Recruiting individual members from another alliance is seen as dishonorable & insulting.

10. Out of respect for the membership, do not use profanity in the alliance forum. Use of profanity used to be against the rules posted by BFG, & a player could still site this as verbal abuse. Also, there are ladies & children who play this game, so please be respectful of them & remember just because certain words may seem acceptable to you, they may not be acceptable to other players. Even if you're upset about something, take the time to edit your writing & put a little more intelligent thought into your messages so they convey your displeasure without resorting to gutter language. So there is no confusion, foul language is profanity. Pure & simple; shouldn't need further explanation. Furthermore, it is highly recommended you apply the same rules to any private messages you send, as the recipient could turn you in to BFG or report the offensive posts to the leadership, in which case counseling or further action may occur. If profanity is noticed, I or another officer will delete your post & send you a private message letting you know why. If it's a first offense, you may be asked to watch your language in the future. For blatant, repeat offenses, refer below.

11. Repeat offenses or counseling on the same transgressions will be grounds for immediate removal from the alliance, regardless of mitigating circumstances. Such demonstration of an inability to learn from past mistakes will be deemed a liability to the alliance, & the person in question will be removed rather than allowed to continue to jeopardize the well-being of the alliance at large with his/her continued errors. Likewise, numerous counselings on a number of transgressions demonstrating a track record of poor judgment may also require removal to protect the membership from such chronic errors.

12. Any Horseman who deems a member of the alliance to be too great a threat to the safety, security, & overall well-being of the Grey Wolves as a whole may request the right to remove the offending member. Said Horseman must present his reasons for this request in writing to the other Horsemen. Should a majority of the Horsemen concur within 72 hours, the requesting Horseman may remove the member from the alliance without consequence. Any such member will be banned from the alliance at this time & not allowed readmission. The removed member may petition a staff officer of the alliance to act as an advocate to appeal the decision, at which point the staff officer may or may not choose to act as advocate. If a staff officer chooses to act as advocate for the removed member, he/she may do so without consequence, & must present a formal petition in writing to the Horsemen within 72 hours of the players' removal. If no staff officer will act as advocate, the appeal is rendered null & void.

NOTE: These guidelines are subject to change to consider feedback by the members & officers of the Grey Wolves. Requests for changes must be formally submitted & will be considered for implementation at the leadership's earliest convenience.

Inter-Alliance Relations

Non-Aggression Pacts (NAPs)

Grey Wolves welcome all peaceful relations, regardless of a player's strength or the size of their alliance. Alliances which enter into an NAP with the Grey Wolves agree to the following terms:

1. Members shall not attack or probe active members of the either alliance. And attack on any active player within either alliance shall be considered in violation of the terms of the NAP, and must be dealt with by the offending player's alliance.

2. Reparations of at least 100% of the damages, including lost ships, defenses, and resources must be paid to the victim, and an apology issued by the offending player, or the alliance must take action, including possibly expelling the offending player from its ranks.

3. Attacks on inactive players of either alliance are considered fair play and are exempt from these conditions.

4. Resource trading and group defense are welcome activities, so long as any battles do not violate other standing NAPs. These activities are voluntary and may be pursued at each individual player's discretion.

5. Should either alliance choose to dissolve the NAP, written notice shall be given at least 48 hours prior to dissolution.

Ambassador Program

The Ambassador Program is an Interalliance Liaison Officer Exchange Program founded in recognition of the work to strengthen ties between COIP & the Grey Wolves, which helped us gain several NAPs & resulted in an exchange of ideas & information that was mutually beneficial to both COIP and the Grey Wolves. This program is currently headed by Sir Isaac Newton, who is the alliance's Ambassador Extraordinary & Plenipotentiary & Commandant of the Ambassador Corps.
