The Empusa is a small, but powerful, assault unit. Its pilots are trained to perform kamikaze missions to inflict massive amounts of damage on enemy ships. However, the Empusa is only effective against opposing ships, and only when sent on an attack. When attacking, the Empusa will sacrifice itself in the first round of battle to inflict as much damage as possible. When defending, the Empusa will not sacrifice itself in the first round, but its attack (weapon) rating is 0.

Analysis
Advantages
The Empusa has the lowest ore cost of all offensive ships, and the attack rating of this vehicle is only beaten by the Prometheus, Thanatos, and Zeus. The Empusa is also one of the fastest attack ships in the game, making it possible to add these to an existing attack when the fleet is much closer to the target.
Disadvantages The Empusa will all engage in kamikaze attacks during the first round of a battle. After that, they are gone. In an attack, Empusa can therefore not be used as fodder. While most ships will fire six times at the enemy, the Empusa will fire only once. Also, while most ships will soak up some damage from the enemy fleet, few empusa, if any, will take any damage at all, leaving the rest of your fleet to take up the damage from the ships they don't destroy. In defense, the Empusa will not attack at all. They will just sit there, absorbing a few hits before getting destroyed, causing all the hydrogen that you spent to be wasted, and creating a small puff of ore to enter the debris field.
Uses Players with a lot of extra hydrogen sometimes build Empusa to serve as a ready punitive fleet for backdoor ninja attacks. If a player raids one of their planets, they may then send out a fleet of Empusa to meet the enemy's returning fleet. Some have also suggested using Empusa as a fodder ship in group defense situations. The Empusa has a low ore cost, and therefore will produce only a small debris cloud, and it is faster than most other military craft. In situations where one would previously need to use a fodder fleet of hermes due to time constraints, the speed may make it possible to send Empusa instead. Since Empusa have less debris, they are a less attractive target to attack. Also, since Empusa have a shield score, and fewer rapid fire vulnerabilities, the Empusa will survive an attack better than hermes.
