One of the top five alliances in Starfleet (simply due to their huge number of active and non-active players) , a text book "Herd Alliance"*, The True Pug Empire is not overtly aggressive, in fact if it weren't for the tax, they would all be in diplomatic mode. A highly active and organized alliance, the mission of the Pugs is to run missions all day, build up their mines, and occasionally trade resources.
An alliance for a range of players from mighty ore and crystal hoarders to peaceful turtles, from those ranked in the double digits to those whose ranks have a few more digits than they would like. We provide training and advice to all through our organized off site forum as well as our in game message board. Our leader, Scott P. works tirelessly behind the scenes to provide Pugs with maximum communication and advice.
"I would rather have an army of dogs led by a Pug than an army of Pugs led by a dog."
One of the larger alliances, as of February 25 2010 the Pug Empire consisted of 914 members, and falls under the "Herd" alliance category.
There are "herd-like" alliances out there that rely on sheer numbers to discourage predators. They tend to be people who are builders and gatherers. They do missions and graze hoping to survive long enough to be less of an inviting target.
Many people who join these alliances are not willing to stand up and fight for themselves, let alone each other. They are more than happy to let their comrade get farmed because "hey, its not happening to me". Just like a herd of prey, they scatter and hope they aren't the victim.
